@Pullthepocket @BH_MaidenWatch @marcattenberg Missed this convo in real time, but have a few thoughts with the caveat that I'm not talking about what I think would be good for business, as that's not my thing/I'm not a biz person (and am fully prepared to be called a moron! which is fine & usually true) 1/x

@Pullthepocket @BH_MaidenWatch @marcattenberg I'm sure there are plenty of fun/useful things about fixed odds wagering, so these comments should be taken as being explicitly "anti": I like pari-mutuel wagering and find the odds fluctuations to be part of the fun, even if the end result sometimes costs me money 2/x

@Pullthepocket @BH_MaidenWatch @marcattenberg Saw this point: "fixed odds are what sports bettors expect", and sure, I can see that. But my anecdotal observation of sports bettors (based on my family!) is that fixed odds wouldn't make them any more inclined to play the ponies. 3/x

@Pullthepocket @BH_MaidenWatch @marcattenberg They (sports bettors in my family!) don't feel comfortable playing what they don't know. They already follow football, hockey, soccer etc and understand it. Not much of a leap for them to place a bet as they already have an opinion 4/x

@Pullthepocket @BH_MaidenWatch @marcattenberg Maybe they'd be more likely to take a small flyer the Derby like when I put $20 in the office Super Bowl pool, but that's it. And again, that's them. Not saying fixed odds wouldn't entice ANY sports bettors, but feels like a big assumption (unless there's research/data?) 5/x

@Pullthepocket @BH_MaidenWatch @marcattenberg Back to the fun of pari-mutuel betting. When I feel like I have an edge/good opinion against the crowd, I'd rather have the odds floating up because the FTS 2yo Pletcher is taking a stupid amt of money or all the Chad's are being overbet on the turf. THAT's that I call Fun 6/x

@Pullthepocket @BH_MaidenWatch @marcattenberg When I go to the track I don't spend time fretting over odds changes. I put my bets in on my phone as close to post as possible. Obv not gonna be the case for non-racing ppl, but none of our non-racing friends have complained abt odds changes or mentioned worrying about it 7/x

@Pullthepocket @BH_MaidenWatch @marcattenberg IMO pari-mutuel betting is one of the fun things unique to racing. I'd rather see totes upgraded to real time odds and more ADWs offer conditional wagering (e.g., setting min you're will to accept). TS offers it, and think I only ever used it a couple of times, but YMMV 8/8
